Farmer’s Information:

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu came into existence on 20th September, 1999 following the amendment in  Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology  Act, 1982 through the State Legislature with background aspirations, commitment and missionary zeal to cater the needs of entire region through integration of teaching, research and extension. The main goal is to increase agricultural production and productivity in sustainable manner for food, nutrition and livelihood security of people and overall economic prosperity of farming community for the entire Jammu region. The AICRP on Maize (All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Maize) Udhampur was established in the year 2006 under DMR by ICAR which was affiliated to SKUAST-Jammu (J&K). AICRP on Maize Udhampur had a mandate to cater the needs of Maize Research of Jammu region with special emphasis on development of intermediate areas of Udhampur, Reasi, Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts. AICRP Maize was funded by the ICAR (Directorate of Maize Research) New Delhi and AICRP on Maize, Udhampur Project was closed on 31-03-2018 and thereafter the AICRP Maize was renamed as Maize Research Station, SKUAST-J, Udhampur w.e.f. April 2018. The altitude of district Udhampur ranges between 600m to 1200m above mean sea level. The soil type varies from sandy loam to clay loam. The Topography of the area ranges from medium plans to hill terrain. The zone has sizeable area under permanent grass lands. The major crops of the zone/region are Maize, Wheat, Rice and forages.
