About Krishi Branding Centre

The agricultural sector in Jammu and Kashmir faces significant challenges, including inefficient marketing practices, unfavorable terms of trade, and a lack of adequate market infrastructure. The "Strengthening Agricultural Marketing in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir" project is being implemented to address these issues and empower farmers. Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) is undertaking several key activities as part of this project.

  • Activities
    1. A Krishi Branding Centre has been established at SKUAST-Jammu. This center will serve as a hub for farmers, providing essential facilities and support for brand development and improved market access.
    2. In the background of this, three training sessions under agriculture branding (ABCs), four under Rural Business Service Hubs (RBSHs) and one webinar have been conducted, resulting in capacity development of more than 350 beneficiaries.
    3. Several niche crops have been identified for branding initiatives.
    4. A questionnaire and sampling design have been developed to assess the branding potential of the selected niche crops.
    5. The draft Memorandum of Agreement for branding purposes has been approved, and the MoA will soon be signed with one of the Farmer Producer Organization (FPO).
