Bakerwali
1. The Bakerwal tribe of Jammu and Kashmir rear a goat population commonly known as “Bakerwali” goat which is still not characterized as a distinct breed.
2. This population in some areas is known as “Kaghani” goat.
3. These goats are reared for meat and household milk purpose. These goats are maintained in large flocks under extensive system of rearing.
4. The birth weight of male 3.37higher than female 3.36kg.
5. These are white colored goats distributed in the Jammu division of Jammu & Kashmir. Face or hindquarters are black in some animals.
6. Pure black goats are also found. Whole-body is covered with long hair.
7. These are large-sized goats having a convex head.
8. Ears are cut and pendulous.
9. Horns are screw type and are carried upwards and backward.
10. These are reared for meat and milk. The udder is pendulous. Adult body weight varies from 35 to 60kg in males and 30 to 50kg in females.
11. The average daily milk yield is about 900g.
