National Conference of SIDAVES inaugurated at SKUAST-J

Jammu, 8th February: National Conference on the theme “Innovative Technological Interventions for Doubling the Farmer’s Income” begins today on 08th of February 2018 at Main Campus Chatha of SKUAST-Jammu. SIDAVES (Society for Integrated Development of Agriculture, Veterinary and Ecological Science) & SKUAST-Jammu in a scientific endeavor are organizing this National Event in which more than 400 distinguished scientists and policy makers from different parts of the country having specialization in agriculture / veterinary / ecological sciences will be participating. The Conference began with the lightening of the traditional lamp by all the dignitaries - Prof. Pradeep K. Sharma Chief Guest and VC SKUAST-J, Prof. Nazir Ahmed VC SKUAST-K, Prof. Kusumakar Sharma Ex ADG ICAR, Prof. MY Zargar Director Research SKUAST-K, Prof. RK. Arora Convener of the Conference and Dr JP Sharma Organizing Secretary & Director Research SKUAST-J. Prof. Pradeep K Sharma while giving stress on doubling farmer’s income informed that Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Sh. Narendra Modi’s determination to double farmer’s income by 2022 has become country’s resolution to explore the plethora of technological options to find out the strategic package to achieve the target and this conference is one step towards the goal of doubling the farmer’s income. He further expressed his satisfaction for organizing a conference on such a burning issue relevant to survival of the farmer in coming years and for receiving support of a galaxy of the eminent speakers who have made a mark in their chosen field of research for giving their valuable time to present lead papers in this conference. Prof. Nazir Ahmed told that there is a need to pay attention on climate change, right agronomic practices, timely management of insects-pests for doubling the income of farmer. Prof. Kusumakar focused on links involved in conservation of natural resources and increase in productivity at lower cost. Prof. RK. Arora emphasized on integrated farming system approach along with reduction in input cost. Dr JP Sharma while giving detailed power point presentation on the subject focused on farm mechanization and sustainable agriculture to increase production and productivity. He expressed that the most important thing is right price and right market for farmers to double the income. He hoped that the recommendations derived out from the deliberations on various issues will go a long way in meeting the targets of doubling farmer’s income. Besides, all the Statutory Officers, HODs, Faculty members / students of the varsity, the function was attended by Director Education Dr. T. A. S. Ganai, Director Planning Dr. Deepak Kher, Registrar Dr. Dileep Kachroo, Dean FBSc. Dr. Rizvi, Dean FVSc. Dr. Zama, President Teaching Dr. Vikas Sharma and President Non- Teaching Sh PDK Uppal. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Vivek M.
