Mandate:-

·          Advancement of education in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Sciences  and other allied sectors

·          Conduct basic, strategic and applied research in agriculture and allied sectors

·          Dissemination of knowledge and technology to the farming community

·          Collaborate with National and International oganisations for enhancing the knowledge, expertise and excellence for the well being of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in particular and the country in general

A.    Teaching

The Division of Agronomy has been involved in imparting UG and PG courses to develop human resource in the field of Agronomy. The various fields of study in Agronomy discipline are Crop production, Soil fertility and fertilizer management, Water management, Weed management, Fodder development etc.

B.    Research

The focus of the research has been to standardize Agronomical techniques in major kharif, rabi and zaid crops being grown under different agro-climatic zones of Jammu region. The Division has provided research under following themes:

        C. Extension

The Division of Agronomy has been actively involved in various Extension Education engagements for the benefit of personnel from line departments as well as the farmers of Jammu region. The involvements include regular interaction through print and electronic media where technologies are disseminated in the form of popular articles, TV & Radio Talks. The Scientists of the Division have been serving various districts of the region as resource personnel for T& V monthly workshops who are involved in regular advocation of various technologies to Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture and Command Area Development. Besides numerous on-farm trials, Front line demonstrations, Farmer’s field trainings are continuous process for popularization of generated technologies through our research programme. On weekly basis agro-advisory bulletins are being issued.

·         Farming System Centre, has established a profitable Integrated Farming System live model at Chatha for small and marginal farmers – which is earning a profit of 3.02 lakh from one hectare, three and a half times more than the farmers are releasing.
