Hon'ble Governor Sh. N.N. Vohra visits SKUAST-Jammu and Inaugurates Aonla Fruit Exhibition
Governor N. N. Vohra, Chancellor Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST J) visited main campus SKUAST of Jammu at Chatha to inaugurate the "Anole Exhibition" organized by the university. The anola (Indian gooseberry) exhibition was organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of Jammu & Kathua districts in collaboration with Division of Fruit Science and the Directorate of Extension Education, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu in which about three hundred farmers participated and displayed their anola produce. The Governor was received at the university by Prof. Pradeep K. Sharma, Vice Chancellor and other officers of the university. He interacted with the farmers on this occasion while paying a visit to anola exhibits displayed by the farmers. He also addressed the fruit growers in the conference hall of the university. In his address, he directed the university for establishing a cooperative model for anola processing and marketing so that it becomes economically remunerative. The university publications in vernacular language for the farmers were also released by the chancellor. The winner farmers in the anola exhibition were given awards by the Governor. Dr. P. K. Sharma in his address presented the overview of anola cultivation in Kandi areas and emphasized on efforts to increase quality and productivity in light of climate change . Director Horticulture, A. K. Sharma also spoke on this occasion. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. K. S. Risam, Director Extension and vote of thanks was presented by Dr. J. P. Sharma, Director Research. The Governor, N. N. Vohra also inaugurated the newly constructed academic block of the Faculty of Basic Sciences, building of Controller of examination, examination hall complex and Seed Testing Laboratory. He took stock of the ongoing developmental activities of the university.
