Research Council

a) The Director Research shall act as Member Secretary of the Research Council (in accordance with section 16(1) of the act). In his absence a person in the university service shall be nominated by the Vice chancellor to act as Member Secretary.


b) Secretary shall give 10 days notice along with agenda before each meeting.


c) The research Council may meet twice a year on the dates to be fixed by the Vice Chancellor.
However, if required, the Vice Chancellor may call any meeting in addition to the above.

d) Quorum of the meetings of the Research Council shall be half of the total strength the members
of the council. In case of emergency or special the Vice Chancellor may call a meeting of the
Research Council suspending the notice period to the extent he deems fit. Quorum for such emergency meetings shall be 1/3 of the total strength of members of the Research Council. In case such emergency meeting for transaction of same business.


e) All members of the Research Council other than ex-officio members shall hold office for a period of one year.

Research Activities

MUSHROOMS: Year round cultivation of different species have also been devised & know-how handed over to Agriculture Deptt.

SAFFRON : Considerable success had been achieved in the crop of at Kishtwar area of Jammu region. The work on propagation of saffron through plant tissue culture is also in progress at Plant Tissue culture facility at Udheywalla

MEGA SEED PROJECT FOR CROPS & FISHERIES: ICAR has sanctioned mega seed project for the production of quality seed for different crops to this university with total layout of Rs. 3.91 crores in year 2006.

At present 63 externally funded research projects including ICAR and All India co-ordinated schemes are undertaken in the university. These research projects are funded by Department of Bio-technology (DBT), National Technology Project (NATP), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), National Horticulture Board (NHB).

Focus on non-crop related agriculture

n Jatropha as a source of Bio-diesel, new initiative has been taken by university. 23 species of higher potential from Jammu region had been identified

n 500 plants of improved variety of Raj Harad, medicinal plant has been propagated and distributed among farmers and line departments.

n A new project on establishment of Herbal garden was initiated with financial assistance from National herbal Board
